Frostbite 2 Tests Poorly On Wii U, According to Johan Andersson

Frostbite 2 Tests Poorly On Wii U, According to Johan Andersson

According to Johan Andersson, Technical Director on Frostbite at DICE, the Frostbite 3 engine will not support the Wii U console.  According to him, the engine was tested on the Wii U but returned poor results.  This announcement comes as the relationship between Electronic Arts and Nintendo is less than perfect.  Sadly, it is also at the same time that Disney and EA have announced a partnership for the Star Wars Gaming Franchise.

A similar claim was made when Epic Games announced that the Unreal Engine 4 will not run on the Wii U.  Later, Mark rein clarified that although the Unreal Engine 4 would not work, the games could be ported to the Wii U without issue.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Frostbite 2, or even 3, engine has not had enough testing to completely rule it out for the Wii U.  This speculation is due to the rocky relationship between EA and Nintendo.

What are your thoughts about EA and Nintendo’s relationship, is it a petty argument or is it something bigger?

**Before this becomes a Nintendo Bashing fest in the comments, let’s remember that EA and Nintendo have never really played nice together.  So, it is no surprise that  EA is acting this way.  The Wii U could be the most powerful machine on the market and we would undoubtedly see some hesitation by EA.

Iwata: Smartphones Are Nintendo’s Friend, But Not Best Buds

Iwata: Smartphones Are Nintendo's Friend, But Not Best Buds

Everyone seems to have a smartphone now days.  You would think that with their power and ease of access, they would become a bigger opponent of the handheld consoles, such as the Vita and 3DS.  However, people still seem to avoid them for serious gaming.

In my eyes, I think Smartphones have a great potential.  I have played multiple Square Enix games and have had a wonderful experience.  But still, I like the operation of phone and console.  It seems that Nintendo’s Iwata feels similar.  In a recent investor Q & A, he noted that Smartphones and Tablets should not be compared to “traditional” systems.  A dedicated gaming device just offers more for the gamer.

Iwata’s response to the investors was, “For instance, those who are interested in the Animal Crossing series, but are not aware of Nintendo Direct might have seen a tweet about the video and the link to it on their Twitter timeline and actually accessed it on their smartphone. In this context, smartphones are nothing but our friend.

Above all, we have two things to do: to offer consumers gaming experiences which smart devices cannot realize and to actively try to make smart devices our allies, not our enemies.”
What are your thoughts on Mobile gaming.  Can the two mesh, or is Iwata correct?

Pure Nintendo Kickstarter: 7 Days To Go!

When I heard the news that Nintendo Power was ending publication, I was crushed.  I almost blame myself for not picking up an issue in years, but in my childhood I was an avid subscriber.  I can remember anticipating the newest issue’s arrival, then slowly thumbing through the pages to ensure I did not miss a single detail.  Now that it is gone, I feel that a piece of my childhood is lost.  I know there are a lot of gaming magazines out there, but none are devoted exclusively to Nintendo products.  Now, that is not a bad thing, but only a purely Nintendo magazine could devote the love and attention that our favorite gaming company deserves.

Our friends over at PureNintendo.com are just as passionate about the Nintendo universe as we are here at Infendo.  They also felt the void left by Nintendo Power’s demise, so Nate Sylvia and  Justin Sharp decided to do something about it!  They decided to launch a Kickstarter project to help them raise the money needed to publish a high quality magazine that would include “high definition screen shots, photos, and intelligent articles”.  Pure Nintendo Magazine will be perfect for the fan that prefers a print version, as well as a digital version for mobile, tablet and desktop devices.

“We love Nintendo and we hope you do too!! Help us prove to the gaming community that there are still Nintendo fans out there who have an insatiable appetite for all things Nintendo! “, pretty much sums up the passion that Nate and Justin have for this project.  Their devotion to the king of consoles is what will set Pure Nintendo apart from other gaming magazines.

The Kickstarter project has a goal of $20,000.00 and ends on October 11 at 10:19 PM EDT.  Those that pledge at least $10.00 to this amazing project will be awarded with some great items, such as a Pure Nintendo sticker, or for $20.00 a year subscription and other fantastic awards (I personally want to hoodie)!

I urge everyone to check out their Kickstarter page and consider pledging at least one dollar if you can.  the dedications and support of fans like us are needed to help bring the vision of Pure Nintendo Magazine forth.  I, for one, am very excited to see the success of the of the magazine and will be proud to say that my contribution helped make it happen!  To check out the project and submit your pledge, click the following link!

Video Game Companies: Which Of Your Friends Are They?

Video Game Companies: Which Of Your Friends Are They?

What if you were to associate your friends with the video game companies?  Who would they be in real life?  The pictures below are a fairly close representation in my opinion.

What others would you add?

In a Tribute to Nintendo’s Genius, Sony Will Release A Software Update Allowing the Vita to Be Used as A PS3 Controller

In a Tribute to Nintendo's Genius, Sony Will Release A Software Update Allowing the Vita to Be Used as A PS3 Controller

In the Video game industry we see a lot of copy cat ideas.  Whether it be a game concept, or a hardware concept, it happens all the time.  Many times, the copier improves upon the idea of the original.  This is a good thing, because we the Big 3 are always battling to release the best of the best ideas.

The constant task of “one upping” the competition is why it is no surprise that Sony plans to release a software update to the Vita which will allow it to be used as a controller for the PS3.  The update, that is expected on August 28th of 2012, will allow the player to use the handheld as a controller similar to the way Nintendo uses the Wii U game pad.  The downside is that the player will need a copy of the game for the vita and PS3 to work, at least for now.  I would guess that future game releases and software updates will bypass the downfall.

I have to admit that Sony might have hit gold on this update.  Although they do not currently have games that allow the same experience as the Wii U gamers will have (I am sure they are working on that though), they did use two existing systems for a similar outcome.  For those of us that own both the Vita and the PS3, our expense will be minimal.  For those that don’t, you will still be able to purchase the system you don’t have and take advantage of both systems separately and combined.  I have to wonder how Microsoft will counter attack with their lack of a handheld…maybe use a Windows 8 Smartphone or Tablet?

Some other updates that will be included on August 28th are:

*Added Video Playback Features

*Import Playlists From Itunes

*Vita Users can Join PlayStation Plus Service

*Increased Number of Games That Can go Head-To-Head with PS3

*Increased Number of Games to be Saved or Continued on Either Device

This could be a huge step for Sony since the update will be applied before the Wii U is released, and especially if they can release games that utilize the features of the Vita to be applied to the game play on the PS3 or what I like to call the “Dungeon Master” feature which allows the Handheld user to control a different aspect of the game while those using standard controllers play normally.
What are your thoughts on the update, will it hurt Nintendo and advance Sony, or is it too rushed?
