Hayao Miyazaki has long been a hero of mine. His immersive storytelling has captivated my imagination since I viewed my first Ghibli movie, Kiki’s Delivery Service. When I found out that “From Up On Poppy hill” has finally received an English voice cast I was undoubtedly excited.
In 2011, From Up On Poppy hill was the highest grossing Japanese film, earning a whopping $56 million dollars. I have yet to see it, but as with most Ghibli movies, I will watch both the English and Japanese versions.
The voice cast is said to include Gillian Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ron Howard, Aubrey Plaza, Christina Hendricks, and Emily Osment. With an amazing all star line up, the voice overs are sure to be perfect.
Hayao Miyazaki was the writer of the story and his son Goro has directed the movie. THe film is set in Yokohama in 1963. TTHe lead characters, Umi and Shun, join forces to save their high school’s club house from demolition. As they work together, a romance develops between them.
