Ahhhh Gamescom, the best thing Germany has given the world since the Aqua Scooter and the tape recorder. It has been the place of many first looks into the gaming world such as Sony announcing the ps3 slim and Insomniac showing the live action trailer for resistance 3 and much much more. Every year since ’09 I have been very impressed with the show all in all and I find my excitement for it to come every year is close to what I feel every time E3 come around. This year is no different, everything I have seen so far has left me very impressed. However, there is a certain someone who stole the show this year for me and his name is Deadpool.
A lean, mean, killing machine with a heck of a sense of humor to boot. This is an odd thing for me to admit because I hated him for many years and I’ll explain why. When I first met Deadpool back in the 90′s I couldn’t stand him one bit. He’s an obnoxious, egotistical, smart ass and I couldn’t stand all his puns and dumb humor all the time and He never held my attention for much longer than a minute. All he seemed to be was just a buffer to fill pages of a comic book. Sure he was a ninja/cowboy/mercenary/commando and almost every other thing that could wield a gun or a sword and he had a ton of sweet moves, heck, he’s everything any kid could ever love. Not me though. It seems that my mentality as a child was for super heroes to be serious all the time and never crack jokes because it would leave them open to attack. Its obvious now, that my opinion on comic book heroes, did a lot of wrong to my friend Mr.Pool. It would seem though, that as I grew older, I began to appreciate him for what he is and thus I began to love him for his stupidity and nonsense.
“Why must you hate the fourth wall so much?”
Now I’m sure most of us know about the Deadpool game that is being produced by High Moon Studios, at least you should if you watched anything from Comic-Con this year. However Comic-Con didn’t give us much to run with besides a censored trailer and a guy dressed up like Deadpool. This is where Gamescom 2012 comes in, High Moon was gracious enough to show us some screenshots and they made me as giddy as Deadpool gets when given the chance to break something and cause some mischief. These screencaps and concept art showed me a man with a mission. This mission was to mess up anyone who got in his way, make many horrible puns as he killed them, and do what every he pleased. To me, that sounds just like the Deadpool I grew to love.
“Aww I think I broke it”
Sure Screenshots don’t tell us much regarding a story or game play, but that’s alright with me. All I care about is that it wasn’t a lie and that the game production is in full swing. I have a feeling I’m going to love this game no only because of Deadpool, but because High Moon Studios has really impressed me with the Transformers series they have been working on. So I hope you’re all ready for some face smashing, gun blazing, sword slashing, yo mama joke crackin, action packed stupidity. I’ve got a good feeling he’ll be bringing a whole mess of it come 2013.
This is just meant as an update and to let out some fanboy-ish-ness (Not a word but I like it). It seems that no matter where I look, people still haven’t heard that Deadpool is getting the game he deserves and I just wanna get the word out that he is coming and you better be ready.
