Every once in a while something comes along that can potentially change the way the industry thinks and operates. Could OUYA be that special console that shakes the entire industry?
This console is poised for a release date sometime in March. Looking to attract indie developers as well as big name companies it will run on an android operating system. The only question will be how much support will the console receive? Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy III, but will they release new games as well?
This is a big question; with a price point of $99, and being about the size of a Rubik’s cube it won’t compete with the big three in terms of power, but is that a bad thing? The console has been developed from the ground up with gamers in mind. From the controller to the interface, even using OnLive and Vevo, OUYA looks to push creativity as well as functionality.
But with the launch rapidly approaching, there isn’t much to show in terms of content. OUYA needs to prove that this console will not be just a simple box to play Android ports.
With that being said, this will be a very interesting console with loads of potential. The low price point could be appealing, but the thought of just another casual console could turn people away.

It does turn me off but that doesn’t mean I would refuse to try it. If someone else purchases it, hand me an extra controller and make some room on the couch.
As for the part about if they will or will not have new games for this console, I wouldn’t mind it either way. That is because if this console gets praised for a year or so, dies down and in a decade or so someone says “What is that? Is that new?”, I could say nope but it’s very rare and then be happy that I have a rare item.
I’ll provide more feedback when they introduce sports games to this console — that is IF it takes off.
I find it unfortunate that there is so much negativity around OUYA. For me the amount of power it has and whether it can compete on those terms with the big three is irrelevant. A solid game that is actually fun doesn’t need AAA graphics. I do hope there are more then just Android ports, ideally OUYA could be a perfect chance for smaller independent and niche developers. I want OUYA to succeed and I believe it can.
I think it will have a place as a niche console, I don’t see it getting much mainstream success. However, with that being said, it could take a place in the living rooms for casual gamers. It has a cheap price tag and loads of potential.I want to reserve my excitement for the system, but the more I read the more I can see it being that console I’ve been wishing for since this generation began.
