To many writer’s, the works of Dr. Seuss are works of pure genius.  To the kids that hear their Mommy’s and Daddy’s read the books he is just a name on the cover, but his words are captivating.  To the Mommy’s and Daddy’s Dr. Seuss is a memory of their childhood and a comforting read.

Today we celebrate the 107th Birthday of the man that taught us to be a little silly and think outside do the box.  Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield Massachusetts and wrote under the pen names of Dr. Suess, The LeSeig, and even Rosetta Stone.  Not only did he write but he was a political cartoonist and an illustrator in various advertising campaigns. 

Some of his most notable works are The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  The worlds he created in his stores were whimsical, outlandish, unimaginable, Colorful and Noisy… but somehow seemed completely natural.  His rhymes seemed to magically lift his words off the pages and into your mind.  The artwork in the books showed the depth of the Seuss universe in more ways than I believe even he imagined they would.  He opened my imagination and showed me that writing is not always about following the strict rules of literature and grammar, but instead to have fun when getting your point across.

So, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Your words have let my mind shake loose!

Whether stuck at work or playing games

Your works have Seussified my brains

The images of Whoville and the Lorax and such

became worlds that I could smell, hear and touch

Your life is celebrated, so I hope I may
